Currents
The institute's highly regarded retreat programs are an exceptionally effective form of intervention therapy and off-site special programming.
AFFI, Inc. maintains highly trained and experienced retreat teams of Certified Adaptive Fly Fishing Practitioners and instructors who specialize in the planning, coordination, management, and delivery of adaptive fly fishing based Outdoor Experiential Therapy retreats, which can vary from one day to two weeks in duration.
A typical team consists of two to five individuals who are not only world-class fly fishing and fly tying guides and teachers with special certifications in the adaptation of these skill sets for people with special needs, but also usually includes one or more highly credentialed and experienced medical professionals and at least one professional educator. Each team is led by an event manager with extensive experience in the planning and execution of all aspects of highly successful fly fishing retreats, conventions, and other outdoor leadership and OET events...some with over 30 years of experience.
We augment these teams as needed (according to your specifications) with local area experts, lodging and hospitality professionals, and other specialists to round out your agenda and train and orient them prior to your arrival. Our planning and coordination services are "turn-key" and take a holistic and detailed approach to every moment of your retreat or event. We like to say that what we do for you is "add water and stir." AFFI and our key personnel have planned and led successful Outdoor Experiential Therapy events from South America and Europe to the Far East and Alaska, and from tent camping float trips to world-renowned four star resorts. We have the capacity and experience to plan and manage events for large groups numbering in the hundreds, but fly fishing events really must be kept to no more than two dozen or so participants. Even that large of a group limits one's choices in terms of location and activities. Ideal group sizes range from six to sixteen participants.
Our personnel have provided OET retreat services with these and more clients: US Army, US Air Force, US Navy Morale-Welfare-Recreation, US Veterans Administration, Missouri State University, Bass Pro Shops, Federation of Fly Fishers, Springfield Independent School District, Southern Baptist Convention, Boy Scouts of America's Executive Board of Directors, and NATO.
Trips include instructional and recreational periods. So no fly fishing experience is required.
