As I was fishing along the estuary near Peters Canyon bike path, I was passing by houses in Irvine, CA. Usually, the water is not quite deep due to the CA droughts, but this past month has seen unusual amount of rain. However, it was still hard to find fish as the water wasn’t clear due to the runoff from the storm drains.
Nonetheless, I saw many beautiful water birds looking for food along the water and in the mud, like this heron here
Though nature was beautiful, I couldn’t help but notice that in Irvine, all the homes look the same! I look left, I see the same house with nicely manicured lawns. Similar to this:
For real! Why can’t people have some more personality in this city! Why does everything have to look perfect! Like a bubble! All the cities around Irvine, like Santa Ana or San Clemente have much more personality. Then, I found a gem. Nestled near UCI I came across this beauty– I later learned that it was the handiwork of Irvine Garden and Landscape and their landscaping Irvine contractors!
Thank goodness we still see creativity in this place! Anyway, I didn’t catch much today but I had a great time exploring Orange County! Until next time
There are several tips that you can use for landscaping in Southern California. I have much experience, as I have a great garden in my personal home and manage other’s backyards as well when I am not fly fishing in the great Pacific Ocean!
The first tip is to make sure that you are watering your garden early in the morning between the hours of 4 am and 8 am. This is because the water is going to evaporate a lot less than if you do it at a later time when it is hotter outside. Deep watering is recommended so that you can make sure that entire root of your plants are going to become saturated with the water source.
The second tip is to use the slow release fertilizer for your landscaping needs. Roses will need to be fertilized in the middle of the month with a specialized blend of fertilizers. This is the best way to encourage more flowering. These fertilizers were developed so that the materials inside of your landscape are going to be able to give it a helping hand when it needs it in the summer. They are also going to help out your shrubs, palms, and trees during the heat of summer. If you want the best results for this, I’d recommend you check out the local companies that do landscaping in Orange County.
The third tip is for protecting the trunks of your tree. Believe it or not, your tree is going to get sunburn but there is no amount of sunscreen that is going to help it. If unfortunately your tree does get burnt and you chop it down, you can get your stump removed by local landscapers in Orange County. If you have young trees, then they are going to need as much protection from the sun and heat as possible. The best way to do this is by wrapping up the tree and stake the young and older trees. This is going to help to stabilize the trees for the high winds that are present in California.
The fourth tip is to make sure that you are able to keep the soil as moist as possible during the summer. The best way to do this is by applying the mulch to the base of the tree. Most of the time, this is going to mean that you need three to four inches of mulch. This is also going to help to keep the soil cool during the summer months when it is very warm outside. The mulch is also going to help around the roots of your shrubs and trees. You’re going to need to hire a professional for quality mulching services.
The fifth tip is when you are trying to have a vegetable garden in California. You are going to need to know when the best time to plant your vegetables. July is going to be the best time to plant your peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes. It might also be a good idea to seed your pumpkins, squash, and lima beans. If you are going to be planting garlic and onions, you are going to know that they are ready when the tops bend over.
I’ve been fly fishing for quite a whiles now, and today I’m giving away a few free tips for all of you newbies out there. As an angling instructor, I’d like to emphasize that technique of casting is the most important thing for you. It’s important to get a good fly fishing instructor like myself to coach you with this. You need to be able to cast your line proficiently before we can even start discussing how to up your catch rate.
First, try to be as silent as possible and be careful not to cause any ripples in the water. As we all know, fish can sense any moment so you must be relaxed and patient, like a tiger. Trout and other fish can hear vibrations through the water, so any slight movement will send them swimming away.
Look for insects in or on the water. Chances are trout and fish are stalking those prey and will be plentiful for you to catch. Match what the trout are eating and use those as your bait. You need to make sure the fly are also big enough to lure the trout.
Ok that’s it for now as my first post. I hope to have more tips on fly fishing another time. My next post should be about landscaping as that is my second hobby!
